Home Turf of Valley Strong Disaster Relief
Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Valley Strong.
On September 27, 2024, Hurricane Helene tore through the Swannanoa Valley. Within days, a few neighbors handing out supplies from a living room had grown into something the whole valley leaned on.
Volunteers showed up from all over the country — and from overseas — to load cars, run chainsaws, check on neighbors and rebuild what the water took. Pallets of water, diapers, food and heaters came in by the truckload and went right back out to the families who needed them, one car at a time.
That effort became Valley Strong Disaster Relief, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run by people from this valley. The supply hub ran for more than five months. Today Valley Strong is focused on cleanup and rebuilding homes across Western North Carolina, and the work isn't finished. If you can give or lend a hand, they'd love to hear from you.
